30 days overdue: email template

When to send it: A month after the due date.

Hi [Client name],

Invoice [Invoice number] for [Amount] is now 30 days overdue. Despite several reminders, I haven't received payment or an explanation.

Under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, statutory interest of [Interest rate]% a year is now accruing on this invoice (currently [Interest to date]), plus fixed compensation of [Compensation].

Please pay the original amount of [Amount] within 7 days and I'll waive the interest and compensation. After that, I'll add them to the balance.

If you're having cash-flow difficulties, reply and we can agree a payment plan.

Regards,
[Your name]

Why this works

  • Offering to waive interest for quick payment gives the client an easy, face-saving way out — and costs you nothing you were likely to collect anyway.
  • Put the real figures in. Vague threats are ignored; "£23.18 so far, rising £0.64 a day" is not.
  • Offering a payment plan here often converts a non-payer into a slow payer, which is far better than court.
