Third reminder (14 days overdue): email template

When to send it: Two weeks after the due date.

Hi [Client name],

Invoice [Invoice number] for [Amount] is now 14 days overdue (it was due on [Due date]), and I haven't received payment or a reply to my previous reminders.

Please arrange payment this week, or reply with the date you'll be paying. I'd much rather sort this out between us.

As this is a business account, I'm entitled to add statutory interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 to overdue invoices. I'd prefer not to, so a quick payment or reply would be appreciated.

Thanks,
[Your name]

Why this works

  • This is where the tone moves from friendly to firm. Still polite — but clearly a business matter.
  • Only mention statutory interest for business clients; it does not apply to consumers. Use the late payment interest calculator to know the figure before you mention it.
  • Pick up the phone as well. A two-minute call often does more than a third email.
