What is Credit note?

A document that reduces or cancels an invoice you have already issued.

If you need to correct an invoice — a mistake, a discount agreed afterwards, or a refund — you issue a credit note rather than deleting or editing the original. It keeps your invoice numbering and VAT records intact.

A credit note should reference the original invoice number and show the amount (and VAT) being credited.

Example

Credit note CN-003 for £150 against invoice INV-0042, for a session that was cancelled.
